The beat HelpFinder Directory is a database of organisations and individuals providing support to people affected by eating disorders in the UK and from around the world.
Our UK listings include both statutory services (ie those provided by the NHS) and non-statutory services including voluntary organisations, private healthcare providers and counsellors and therapists. Statutory services like hospitals are listed for free. Private healthcare providers, counsellors and therapists are required to pay a fee to be listed on our database. The Helpfinder also includes contact information for the beat self-help network.
Criteria for inclusion on the HelpFinder
The only criterion for being on our HelpFinder Directory is that organisation or individual listed on it provide services for those affected by eating disorders. Each organisation or individual is responsible for the content of their listing. A listing on the HelpFinder does not guarantee that a service has reached relevant quality standards. Nor does it imply endorsement on our part. Click here for information about becoming listed.
We actively encourage all users of the HelpFinder to check that organisations or people listed are members of the appropriate registering bodies or are regulated through the appropriate professional bodies.
For more guidence, read "Keeping you and your family safe" or "Eating Disorders and Private Counsellors". Our links page also contains information on some professional bodies.
We may remove a listing from the Directory if we become aware of proven professional misconduct or loss of professional status or registration.
The HelpFinder disclaimer
All users of the HelpFinder Directory are required to agree to the terms of our Disclaimer before accessing the database.
Future Developments
Government White Paper: Trust, Assurance and Safety - The regulation of health professionals in the 21st Century (Feburary 2007)
There is currently no requirement to register non-statutory healthcare providers like sole counsellors, therapists, psychologists and psychotherapists. This White Paper proposes the regulation and registration of these practitioners. beat strongly endorses the better regulation of these services and will be actively campaigning to ensure that regulation is introduced in a timely and effective fashion.
